ODIN ODN-7M

In an attempt to build their economic clout within the Inner Sphere Financial Circles, Clan Diamond Shark has agreed to supply the Lyran Alliance with the necessary Clan components to produce the Odin Heavy Battlemech. While drawing the line at no weapons systems, they still provided a significant contribution in engines, components, and heat sinks.

Standing at 13 meters tall, the Odin approaches the concept of support in an unorthodox way for a 'Mech of its weight class. While only possessing a ground speed of 64.8 km/h, the Odin achieves a high degree of mobility instead through the use of four GM Jetstar jump jets, allowing it to jump up to one hundred and twenty meters. A Odin can therefore "support" friendly units by jumping directly into the fray and bringing its deadly close range arsenal to bear, an ability which can surprise inexperienced Mechwarriors and prove advantageous in mountainous terrain. One sacrifice made for this superb mobility is the 'Mech's relatively sparse armor of only twelve tons of Compound 12B2 Standard, while the lack of proper anti-infantry capabilities is a minor problem

The Odin's primary weapon is a Defiance Hammerfist Improved Heavy Gauss Rifle in its right arm; though some models reported problems with the ammunition feed, this was not a common issue.The Odin sports one of what was the Lyran Alliance's newest weapons in the early 3060s. The Improved Heavy Gauss Rifle is the largest non-artillery weapon in existence and the Hammerfist can deal an immense amount of damage very quickly. Four tons of ammunition for the weapon keeps it in good supply making the 'Mech extremely powerful in close combat which is capable of firing slugs that can tear gaping holes in an enemy's armor.

In its factory configuration the Odin is a devastating close combat 'Mech and battle armor killer that is capable of delivering a powerful barrage with its three ER Medium Lasers. The left arm contains the 'Mech's close-range backup of three Defiance Model XII ER Medium Lasers with two Defiance Sting Streak missile systems, one located on each shoulder. This weapons load can cause a lot of damage for a light to medium 'Mech and makes the Odin an effective striker, especially when used in groups. An often-used tactic for groups of Odins is to rush upon a single target, concentrate their fire and retreat before the enemy can offer effective resistance.

Streak Missile Launcher technology ensures that all missile tubes acquire a target lock before its missiles fire. This improvement upon standard Short-Range Missiles conserves ammunition and eliminates unnecessary heat buildup.

The Gauss Rifle alone is capable of downing most light 'Mechs in a single shot and stripping off the armor of any location on most heavier 'Mechs, leaving its other weapons to take advantage of any weak points in the enemy's armor. These weapons were originally aimed by a Standus 20 Targeting and Tracking System, but its tendency to project "ghost" targets saw the Standus replaced with the Angst Accuracy Targeting and Tracking System.

You know what Loremaster, I questioned that too, but I made the Odin w/Heavy Metal Pro, and I did get a prompt when I dropped the Gauss Rifle in the arm but all it said was that there wasn't enough slots in the arm and it prompted me to pick a location for the remaining slots. So I selected the right torso and it accepted it. So honestly, I don't know. But Heavy Metal Pro thinks its a legal design. ::hunches shoulders::

For the price its a good solid 'Mech; however, I would suggest moving some of the armor from its legs to up into the torsos and arms. Other than that, I'll give it four stars. :)

Cool...I can live with that. I'd probably trust HM too.

Not checking the specs, but you MIGHT be able to mount it in the arm if you remove all other critical items there.

I like the weapons package because it's a close range death dealer (which my new Mech centric urban warfare sub-unit in the Black Stars prefers). However, a 4/6/4 movement profile is the absolute minimal I'd consider for any Mech so Odin would be an iffy choice.

Again, love how the design is based around the art. Excellent work, even if it's not something I personally would utilize.
