New Salvage Rules

Postby DeputyDirector » Sun Sep 10, 2017 10:04 pm

The salvage rules have been reviewed by the Staff and changes have been made in order to better help the units in our universe and to make things more in line with what we have seen in the Battletech novels and such. Salvage is now based on a combination of BSBT, Minimum Word Count, and Tiers with adjustments being made to how much salvage is awarded per words in the transcript.

All units will receive salvage for a contract transcript submitted to the MRBC, no matter the word count submitted. Please note that although Minimum Word Count is no longer used as a fail/succeed measure for a contract, it is still calculated in our automatic contract system and Minimum Word Count is still displayed on contracts. We are using this as a useful metric for determining where one salvage tier starts and another one ends.

The Tiers are as follows

Tier 1: for contracts that do not have BSBT and the unit fails to meet the minimum word count (salvage is WC/500)
Tier 2: for contracts that do not have BSBT and the unit meets or exceeds the minimum word count (salvage is WC/400)
Tier 3: for contracts with BSBT, but the unit fails to meet the BSBT word count (salvage is WC/300)
Tier 4: for contracts with BSBT and the unit meets or exceeds the BSBT word count (salvage is WC/200)

Tier 1 and Tier 2 salvage must be requested by the MUCO/MUXO prior to the submission of the transcript with a wish list of 3x the amount of tonnage should be submitted. Tier 3 and 4 salvage will automatically be awarded and a wish list of 3x the amount of tonnage should be submitted.

With the Word of Blake no longer being a major player in our universe, we have removed Type F salvage from the Salvage Types. Given how much more common Lostech is as well as advanced electronics and equipment, we have also removed the Type B Lostech Salvage Type. However, now WoB, Lostech, and modern Inner Sphere equipment can be requested on Type B, C, and D salvage.

Type A (Clan) salvage continues to be awarded with a minimum of 100 tons (reduced as other salvage payment is higher) but there is no change to equipment counts as listed on the BTM website (https://www.battletech-mercenaries.com/ ... alvage.php)
Type B (Standard) salvage: No change to current equipment counts
Type C (Combat Intensive) salvage: No change to current equipment counts
Type D (Major Raid) salvage: No change to current equipment counts

Also, here are some basic questions and clarifications for salvage.

Salvaged infantry is considered to be salvaging the equipment to make the unit. The actual troopers are not "salvaged" but it is assumed that new recruits are found at no additional costs to the unit.

It is expected that salvage requests be reasonable and appropriate for the submitted contract. For example, if the unit were to engage a force that consisted entirely of infantry and armored vehicles, then salvage should be from those units and not include BattleMechs or if you are fighting an Inner Sphere militia, then you would not be salvaging a Clan OmniMech, etc.

OmniMech kits may be requested as part of salvage, again, keeping the request appropriate. For example, an enemy force with no Clan gear would not have a Clan OmniMech kit, etc. Likewise an enemy force with no OmniMechs in their TOE would not likely have OmniMech kits in their storage.

If there are any comments, questions or concerns on this issue, please feel free to post them here or contact me by PM or by email at deputy@battletech-mercenaries.com .
