==Overview:==
The Catapult CPLT-C1 'Kimberly' is a 'gift' from Clan Rift Tiger to the Scion of House Davion for adopting their Clan Conclave into House Davion; not a production run. It is a unique 'Mech, and not available for sale/resale. The upgraded proto type CPLT-C1 'Kimberly' Catapult was produced in conjunction with Hollis Incorporated in 3085 under a special military contract with Clan Rift Tiger. It was officially classified as a close-support vehicle, designed as a second-line defense with strong offensive capabilities.

The 1st upgrade model of the Catapult was equipped with no close support weapons, but the most current version carries four ExoStar Pinnacle (Clantech) extended range medium lasers for close support.

==Capabilities:==

This Catapult was upgraded from an Inner Sphere standard Magna 260 Fusion engine to a Clan XL Magna 260 complete with single to double strength Heat Sinks to boot. With the weight savings granted the engineers, they equipped the 'Kimberly' with the uber reliable ExoStar Clan missile systems, in this case mounting two racks of Heavy Class LRMs with Artemis V FCS each. This gives the Catapult a range of nearly a full kilometer, capable of destroying an enemy from a long distance without risking opposing fire. The Artemis V Fire Control System is an improved, next generation version of the ubiquitous Artemis IV FCS and it improves both the likelihood of a successful hit as well as the number of missiles that strike the target. It maintained its ammo loadout of four tons of reloads but now the 'Mech is protected by a CASE II system, the more advanced version of CASE, venting more of the damage out of the 'Mech, away from the vital internal structure.

On those occasions when the 'Mech is engaged at close range, it is more than able to defend itself with its four Clan model, ExoStar Pinnacle extended range medium lasers, upgrades from their Inner Sphere inferior cousins the Martell medium laser. The 'Mech does lack an effective anti-infantry defense system, however, because it was designed as a second-line fire-support system. Also, its lack of manipulative hands is a drawback in close combat situations. So in order to compensate for the 'Mech's shortcomings in these areas it comes with a Targeting Computer and an Active Probe so it doesn't normally blunder into these situations.

And if those upgraded features weren't enough to whet your whistle, the most significant upgrade to the Catapult and what the 'Kimberly' variant is know for is the inclusion of a Command Console complete with an Angel Electronic Counter Measures Suite. The command and control facilities turn the 'Mech carrying a Command Console into a moving command center typically used by high-level commanders. The O/P Angel ECM Suite is an advanced version of the Guardian ECM Suite operating on a broader spectrum and greatly advances ECM technology on the battlefield.

The Anderson Propulsion 21 jump jets had been a problem for the Catapult ever since their installation. If used extensively, the system tends to break its conductive housing. This in turn vents some of the jet exhaust directly into the 'Mechs interior, leading to overheating. That prompted the design team to install the Anderson Propulsion 25s, which does not share the same design difficulties.

The final upgrade came in the form of it's defensive capabilities. The engineers removed the 10 tens of Durallex standard Heavy armor and maxed it out with 12.5 tons of Durallex, Ferro-Fibrous, Heavy Special armor.

The 'Mech's emergency pilot escape system is a side-firing escape hatch instead of the very common roof hatch system. This can cause some damage to the MechWarrior, but is generally considered safer overall in an emergency situation.

NOTE: This is just a custom Catapult for Kimberly Sandoval-Davion, daughter of Yvonne and Tancred.

For a unit designed to stand off then close, I was wondering if Pulse laser tech might be a better fit and dropping the TarComp entirely. I'm not sure about the usefullness of both the Angel ECM and Active Probe.

I generally like the idea (with or without ClanTech.)

I'll have to toy with it some to see if I can find 4 more tons to go with MPLs.

I whole heartedly agree with your perspective on the Angel ECM and the Active Probe as far as Game Playability but I'm at the complete opposite end of the spectrum when it comes to Role Playability, the possibilities are boundless.

I like the command and control/EW upgrades and am generally a fan of LRM Catapults.

I've always been a little put off by the mixed tech for any production model Mech. A single Mech that a MechWarrior has had Clan gear hardwired into their IS Mech is one thing but its just harder to get Clan tech for a full production run of any Mech. Of course, maybe that's me thinking old school as far as salvaging Clan tech.

If it dropped the Clan tech, I would like it better just on principle, but that might cause you issues with the LRMs so I don't know what to do about that except lower the LRM count so you continue to have room for the command and control/EW upgrades.

I'm another old school guy who frowns on mixed tech unless its a one-off custom, or its some Clan manufacturing facility producing lower tech machines using some IS equipment (or in the case of some vehicles, basic chassis) for their second line and/or solahma units.

However, the Field Marshal did mention that its more a customized machine for a key character, and is a limited production run model, so that argument sort of gets thrown out of the the window.

I also agree that in many instances, RP potential versus Construction Rule functionality means equipment meant to give a machine its own flavour might feel inefficient on paper.

For the latter, dropping the entire electronics package will give the machine a heck of a lot of tonnage to play with - upgrading the launchers, swapping out the medium lasers to pulse lasers, upsizing the lasers, etc. Heck, since its mix tech, why not go all the way and slap on ATMs?

For the former though, this machine gives massive RP potential. The loadout is something fun, except maybe dropping the TarComp and finding something to replace that one ton for, maybe a laser anti-missile system?

I liked it as long as it only upgraded 'swappable' components, like the engine, weapons, and armor, but the addition the entire electronic package seems kinda cheesy to me, but I do understand the rationale behind it. She's in line to possibly become the heir to the Federated Suns throne. She needs to be protected.

It still got my vote.

You can't please everyone all of the time.

1. I think the mech was intended as a 'gift' and not even really a true production run. If there was a run, it was probably internally for Clan Rift Tiger, and they chose to customize and gift one to this Scion of House Davion. Think of it as a unique mech, and likely not available for sale/resale. That's where my mind lies anyways.

I can see an argument on the LRM Launchers being Clan vs IS. (Since the ammunition may be different between the two, it might be easier if those were IS Tech. Just my opinion anyways.

That's partly why at least its not ATMs i imagine. I appreciate the Spirit in this one. Also this might be her what second or third ride? I mean Victor started out in a Victor IIRC, then later was gifted Prometheus.

THANK YOU Director!!! I'm going to adopt your explanation and run with it . . .

For all of those who are still reading this thread, go back to the fluff and re-read My adopted version of the Director's explanation. It'll be the first line.

The new fluff makes more sense with the mixed tech. I am good with that.

Drop the mixed tech, swap out the Clan gear for IS gear, and it would be a good production run. Though I don't think you can get the command and control stuff in there doing that. It late and I am not doing the math. :)
